Munaf Patel fined 50 per cent of his match fee for offensive gestures

Mumbai Indians pacer Munaf Patel was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for making offensive gestures to opposition players in his side's Indian Premier League 28th match against Kings XI Punjab.

In the 3rd over of the KXIP innings, Munaf was seen to be resorting to verbal volleys at Punjab opener Nitin Saini after the batsman hit him for two fours and that needed involvement from the umpires and Mumbai skipper Harbhajan Singh.

"Munaf Patel of the Mumbai Indians has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for the Level 1 offences - making offensive gestures (Article 2.1.4) and conduct bringing the game into disrepute (Article 2.1.8) in today's match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai against King's XI Punjab," an IPL release said.

"Munaf Patel admitted the offences and accepted the sanction. In accordance with the IPL Code of Conduct and being Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," the release said.
